'Where the Wild Things Are' comes with a wild soundtrack

The highly anticipated adaptation of the children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are” is finally hitting the silverscreen this Friday. If you are one of the die-hard fans already sporting many of the t-shirts that have recently been produced, the soundtrack to the movie is definitely worth a listen.

Indie rock star Karen O, the lead vocalist for band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, carries the soundtrack with her vocals for the majority of the album. “The Kids” back her up on most of the tracks and the occasional line from the movie itself also make appearances on the soundtrack. Take these all and throw in a little upbeat guitar, childhood energy and lyrics to match the kids and you’ve got yourself one interesting trip down memory lane when you’re listening.

The soundtrack is not a full fledged album and shouldn’t be criticized as one. It’s lacking lyrical depth and song length along with song diversity but when seen as a soundtrack, this album makes listeners very excited for the upcoming movie.

The soundtrack is very immersive and allows people to bring back their inner child in preparation for the film. “All is Love” and “Rumpus” are the highlights of the tracks but all of the songs will draw listeners in if given a willing ear.

Pick up this album before seeing the movie, or afterwards, either way will extend the magic that this children’s book has brought to readers around the world. Let the wild rumpus start!
