Stereogum previews track off upcoming Jason Lytle solo album (and it rocks)
I fancy myself Grandaddy's number one fan. I don't know if that's true or if I could even find a way to qualify that, but I'm willing to bet whatever is in my pocket (read: 75 cents, keys to my apartment) that I am the biggest Grandaddy fan in the world.
The entire world.
But I'm not so sure that's actually saying something. I've found about 2.5 other fans who are as loyal as I am to the Modesto, Calif., indie heroes (best summed up here) and people who are subject to my constant fawning either think I'm talking about this dude or that I had a really strong admiration for my grandfather who just so happened to have a preoccupation with cats and seasonally depressed robots. You might know them, though, for that quirky/sweet ditty "Nature Anthem" (warning: furries of the world, this is NSFW) that found its way into a 2005 Honda Civic commercial.
So when they mysteriously called it quits one day in 2006, I lost it. To quote John Cusack in High Fidelity as I often do, "I lost it all. Faith, dignity. About 15 pounds." Insult to injury, I didn't even like their last album. But whatever.
Now on his own, frontman Jason Lytle is prepping to release his solo venture, Yours Truly, the Commuter -- which, if the preview track is any indication, will be 12 tracks of acoustic-electro-indie-sad-robot-pop ownage.

And now, thanks to the power of the Internet, a video of Jason pushing a lawnmower around a skatepark:
