'Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2' — 3 out of 5 stars

The latest addition to the "Star Wars" franchise, “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2,” puts players in control of Starkiller, a Jedi who was once Darth Vader’s apprentice. Players must travel through vast worlds and a huge army of stormtroopers in an effort to find the Rebel Alliance and its leaders General Kota and Juno Eclipse.

The second iteration of the game has really stepped it up in the graphics area. Both characters and the environment look much more detailed. Minute objects, such as boxes and computers, look highly in depth as well. Starkiller himself also looks better when compared to the first game.

The game play is simpler than the first game, but it also leaves room for creativity. There aren’t a lot of moves available, and the powers of the Force are the same. But considering the strength of the Starkiller, a plethora of combos and attacks are not necessary. The quicktime events are back as well, but they are still repetitive and after a while, they really get boring. The only differences in each event are the buttons that have to be pressed, though they still yield the same effect.

It’s safe to say people want to play this game not for the gameplay, but for the story. It seems the development team knew that as well, and didn’t try to better the gameplay. It would have been a nice addition to see more variety in Starkiller’s moves because after a while, the game does become boring. Star Wars fans should just read the story online rather than play the game. It would be more interesting and less grueling that way.
