With St. Patrick’s Day just weeks away, it seems fitting that Dropkick Murphys realsed a new album, Going Out In Style. For this Irish-punk band, this album is a softer sound in contrast to their usual hardcore punk-sounding songs.
The title track, “Going Out In Style,” sounds like it could be played in a pub. It features bag pipes, which isn’t new for the band, and has a great chorus that could get anyone singing along.
The album begins to sound softer with the song “Cruel.” With a slow tempo and melody, it sounds as if it would be featured in a sad movie scene, but at the same time maintains its "pub" sound. “Broken Hymns” creates an emotional connection with the listener. Although these songs are supposed to be sad, but they have an almost uplifting feel to them.
Honestly, the place people would most likely listen to this album would probably be at a bar. Anyone who has sang Irish classics like “Drunken Sailor” and “The Moonshiner” would like Going Out In Style.
Even though this album probably won’t have a hit, it is still worth listening to – especially if you like folk-sounding music.
