Forsee addresses economy worries

UM system President Gary Forsee e-mailed "students, faculty, staff, retirees and friends" of the four UM campuses this week to lay out the national economic situation's effect on the university. He said the system is "well-positioned to weather the problems and uncertainty" of a market that has took a sharp turn downward over the last two weeks.

To students, Forsee advises staying focused on studies and says endowment funds for scholarships are secure due to diversified investments.

He addresses the UM system Retirement, Disability and Death Benefit Plan for faculty, staff and retirees, saying that like scholarship endowment funds, the benefit plan fund is highly diversified. The university will continue to make pension payments, he says.
