MISC discusses past and future events at general assembly meeting

The Missouri International Student Council focused on concerns, feedback and accomplishments relating to MISC events at  its October general assembly meeting.

MISC members felt that the International Welcome Party and MU’s International Day was a success overall. They hope to hold the Welcome Party in the Student Recreation Complex next year to accommodate the great amounts of people who will come to participate and not violate any fire codes, as they did this year. However, the Welcome Party will remain open to the whole community and not just MU students. For MU’s International Day, MISC agreed to work on way to move lines faster at the International Bazaar and improve the student’s experiences in the line by possibly providing entertainment from the groups.

MSA presidential candidates Jordan Paul with running mate Colleen Hoffman and Phyllis Williams with running mate Jonathan Snipes, who could not be at the meeting, were introduced and answered questions posed to them by MISC members on international concerns within the community.

The next topic was bringing the leadership program “Impact Mizzou” back to MU during spring semester after ending three years ago. MISC selects students to work with MISC and on a specific global issue to focus on.

MISC plans to make up an international calendar of events to be put on the International Web site. They have found that groups’ events within the organization are overlapping each other, and the groups are confused as to when their designated events are. Also, MU and international students who want to become involved are not aware of when the events are taking place. The calendar will include events in November and next semester.

MU International Club is holding a number of events over the next few months: Apple picking for donations on  Oct. 12; a Homecoming tailgate Oct. 25; a haunted house Oct. 29; and a semiformal on Dec. 11 to say goodbye to students leaving the United States and those graduating.
