KCOU referendum bill submitted
Three Missouri Students Association senators have submitted a bill calling for a referendum on KCOU/88.1 FM.
The text of the referendum, according to the legislation, would read:
KCOU 88.1 has been the student radio station for the University of Missouri since 1963 and is funded by student fees allocated by the Missouri Students Association. Their operating budget currently stands at $36,475 and will need additional funds for new equipment to replace outdated operating equipment and expected growth as an organization. Do you wish to continue to allow student fees to be allocated to KCOU for operating expenses, equipment upgrades, and growth?
YES ( )
NO ( )
The bill will go through Senate committees for review and amending tonight and next Tuesday and could be called for a vote next Wednesday, Oct. 29. All three senators who proposed the bill, Budget Chairman Matt Sheppard, Student Fee Review Committee Chairwoman Gwen Daniels and Senator Clarie Stuckel, are members of the Budget Committee, which met Monday night. Daniels is a columnist for The Maneater.
The bill does not call for votes on other MSA auxilaries, such as MUTV/Channel 23, STRIPES or the Craft Studio, which KCOU leaders had called for when the idea of a referendum was first discussed.
