Mays calls special Senate meeting to change election date

Today MSA Senate Speaker Jonathan Mays called for a special meeting of Senate, scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m., to approve new dates for the presidential and vice-presidential election.

“I do believe that we run the risk of having the upcoming MSA election invalidated if Senate has not formally approved a date change through legislation,” Mays said in a e-mail to senators. He authored a bill authorizing the change.

Former BEC Chairwoman Tara Meyer née Brandenburger also expressed her displeasure yesterday about the election day switch, noting that bylaws call for Senate to approve any date changes in elections.

At Tuesday’s Operations committee meeting, Student Court Chief Justice Jonathan Sandhu said he interpreted the bylaws as allowing the BEC to change the date of the election.
