Hiring freeze prompts Senate resolution

Yesterday's announcement of a UM system-wide hiring freeze prompted legislation advocating an exemption for student employees from Missouri Students Association Senate Speaker Jonathan Mays. MSA Vice President Chelsea Johnson and Budget committee chairman Matt Sheppard also signed on.

"It is also important to note that Vice President Rodriguez says she is certain the campus will have an appropriate way to handle these positions, and I expect Chancellor Deaton and Vice Chancellor Scroggs will find a solution quickly," Mays said in an e-mail to the Senate. "But I believe it's best to start broad in this case — we do represent all MU students, after all — and then take a narrower focus where necessary to ensure that students have ample opportunities to find employment on campus."
