Forsee will not sign drinking age initiative
UM system President Gary Forsee announced on Friday that he will not sign a petition in support of lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18, according to a report by the Columbia Daily Tribune released on Friday.
Forsee made the annoucement on Friday in a letter given to attendees of the Board of Curators meeting, which was held at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
According to the report, Forsee said he would not sign the petition for concern of the "health and safety" of UM system students.
The petition, called the Amethyst Initiative, has been signed by over 100 college and university presidents from across the nation, including major institutions such as Duke University, Dartmouth University and Ohio State University.
