Religious groups celebrate holidays
Religious groups will celebrate the holidays this week with Christmas parties, an Advent cantata and an Eid dinner.
Chi Alpha will host a Christmas party at 7 p.m. Friday in the Chi Alpha Lodge. Students will go on a scavenger hunt throughout Columbia, exchange small gifts, play games and eat food, according to the Chi Alpha Web site.
Choir and instrumental ensemble members from the St. Thomas More Newman Center will perform “An Evening in December” cantata at 7 p.m. Saturday, according to their Web site.
The St. Thomas More Newman Center will be reselling Christmas decorations from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the campus ministry mailing list.
Muslims will gather at the Islamic Center of Central Missouri activity room for an Eid dinner Saturday, according to the Muslim Student Organization mailing list. Eid al-Adha, an Islamic holiday that fell on Nov. 27 this year, commemorates Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah.
Campus Lutheran members will give gifts to children from the Coyote Hill foster home on Saturday. Lutheran Student Fellowship members wrapped the gifts for the children Thursday, according to their mailing list.
Campus Lutheran will host a Christmas party for international students at 3 p.m. Sunday, according to the Lutheran Student Fellowship mailing list. Volunteers will explain the significance of the church’s Christmas decorations.
