Greektown representatives meet with MSA executives

In a meeting Thursday, Missouri Students Association President Jordan Paul, Vice President Colleen Hoffmann and members of fraternities and sororities met to discuss the possibility of installing emergency phones at various locations in Greektown and Frat Row.

The plan, which was a key part of Paul’s campaign platform, would install between three and six emergency phones that would automatically connect to MUPD.

Many of the fraternity and sorority members voiced concerns about the phones, however. Their main issue was with the idea of a larger police presence in Greektown.

The majority of the Greek members at the meeting said they felt safer in Greektown than they did on the rest of campus.

One sorority member said she was concerned about what would happen if the police responded to a call and found one of their members drinking.

Though Paul and Hoffmann said that the cost of the phones would not come out of the fraternities or sororities’ budgets, many of the members felt it would be a waste of money.

The possibility of drunk people prank calling the police was also discussed.

Despite Paul and Hoffmann’s efforts to ease concerns, the general mood was negative toward the installation of the phones.
