Forsee announces cuts across UM system offices
UM system President Gary Forsee announced plans to eliminate 22 positions at every level of the UM system office in a news release Thursday.
“As stewards of the state's resources, we are obliged to look carefully at our organizational structure and dedicate resources to our top-level strategic priorities,” Forsee said. “It is important to enter the next fiscal year with a clear plan for our future — one that focuses on our mission and provides the necessary resources."
The cuts will be made in areas including the president’s office, the UM system Board of Curators office, human resources, finance and administration, government relations and academic affairs. The number, which comes from a total of 550 staff members at the office, includes seven position eliminations announced by the system in March.
The news release stated the majority of people affected by the cuts would receive transition assistance and access to health care based on their years of service to the university.
