New ORG at MU: Board Game Club
World domination, creation of monopolistic commercial enterprises and solving murders are among some of the ways the students can have fun.
A new student organization, the Mizzou Board Game Club, was created to foster an atmosphere where students can socialize and learn strategy via board games, according to the club’s Facebook page. Mike Madden, the club’s founder and president, said that the decision to start the club comes from a desire to create friendships.
“I wanted to figure out a way to bring people together,” Madden said. “I know that games allow people to get together in a way no other activity can.”
Madden said he would like to pursue philanthropic endeavors with the club. He said that there are plans to benefit local charities, such as the Humane Society, via game tournaments. Madden said that the club will be teaming up with the Residence Halls Association for the RHA Video Game Festival for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research, expected to take place next school year.
The club currently consists of 15-20 members, but Madden plans to advertise on a large scale at the beginning of Fall semester 2009.
