MSA Operations Committee votes to create a new position
The Missouri Students Association Operations Committee voted to pass a bill which, in effect, creates a new MSA Senate Legislative Director position.
This is a paid position is designed to provide help to the leadership of the Senate and the legislative body as a whole.
If the bill passes, the person appointed to this position would attend meetings if the Senate Speaker is unable to do so, research legislative projects for the Senate Cabinet, serve as an expert regarding issues involving the bylaws of the Association and Rules of the Senate, assist the Board of Elections Commissioners and Senate during senate recruitment at the spring semester and serve as an additional MSA correspondent regarding both internal and external affairs.
As the bill is written, the director position is a one-time position for the 2009-2010 school year. When a new Senate Speaker is elected in May, it will be up to his or her discretion whether to move to renew the position.
The position pays $43.50 weekly for six hours of work at $7.25 per hour. Even if the workload were to exceed the six hour limit, the salary is capped at $43.50.
Senate will meet next Wednesday and vote on this bill.
