JSO, MSO hold interfaith dessert social
Students from the Muslim Student Organization and Jewish Student Organization met at 109 Gwynn Hall 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for an interfaith dessert social.
The event recognizes the holy holidays of Ramadan and Yom Kippur.
Boone Tikkun, a local Jewish interfaith organization, also sponsored the event.
In past years, MSO and JSO students have broken their holy holiday fasts together at an interfaith dinner.
But since Ramadan and Yom Kippur did not overlap this year, students decided to hold an interfaith dessert social instead of a breaking-of-the-fast dinner, JSO director Kerry Hollander said.
Hollander said she hopes these interfaith events reflect peace between the two religions.
“For me to see it happen gives me hope, that if we can teach our young people to see that we are alike in something as personal as religion, that bodes well for the future,” Hollander said.
