Leadership summit held in Leadership Lounge
The Missouri Students Association President Jordan Paul opened today's leadership summit with a speech.
“It seems like if we could work together, we could save a lot of time and money, but often we don’t know each other and therefore that opportunity is lost,” Paul said. “Co-programming is a great thing and I think that this summit is a great way to foster that.”
Leaders from various student organizations convened in randomly assigned groups for an informal “meet and greet” session. They were able to talk about different issues and projects prevalent in their organizations this year and make contacts with other student leaders on campus.
Residence Halls Association Speaker of Congress Blake Lawrence also serves as an MSA senator. He said RHA and MSA end up dealing with a lot of the same issues, and events such as these are a good opportunity to expand communication.
“You can always strive for greater communication skills between these two organizations,” Lawrence said. “It allows RHA to improve the in-hall experience for freshmen and the undergrad experience overall.”
Some leaders felt underrepresented, but said they wanted to work with other groups more often.
“I wish there were more multi-cultural organizations,” the Missouri International Student Council Secretary Taha Hameduddin said. “They’re not very well represented at this meeting. But I think that this is a great opportunity to improve cooperation and communication and encourage co-partnership.”
Following the meet and greet, Chancellor Brady Deaton gave a speech thanking the students for the leadership they have given the university and their willingness to step forward and make decisions that improve MU. He gave special recognition to Paul, deeming what he said to be commendable leadership.
