Rooted selects counselors, prayer team for retreat
The Christian student organization Rooted announced Sunday the new counselors and prayer team who will lead next year’s freshmen on a retreat this fall.
Counselors will lead student groups in Bible studies at the retreat and then organize get-togethers later, Rooted director Gwen Daniels, formerly of The Maneater staff, said.
Daniels said the prayer team will pray for MU and the class of 2014 at the retreat.
“We can feel some of the things they’re praying for actually happen at the retreat, so you can see the power of prayer in action,” Daniels said.
Throughout this semester, the Rooted prayer executive will train the prayer team in finding new ways to talk to God and the leadership executive will help counselors learn how to lead Bible studies and help new students adjust to MU, Daniels said.
Members of the Rooted executive board interviewed applicants Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Daniels said Rooted looked for agreement with their statement of beliefs, which appears on the application.
“Everyone was on the same page with that,” Daniels said. “Beyond that, we looked for a passion for service, passion for ministry, passion and experience in small groups and people who really wanted to make an investment in the class of 2014 and who thought this was a good way to unite the body of Christ at Mizzou.”
Rooted director Kirstin Heep said the newly selected counselors are Christiana Nielson, Katie Higgins, Lindsay Cochrum, Ashleigh Bartlett, Katie Jones, Mollie Landers, Kadee Brosseau, Kristina Houser and Jim Stites.
Some members of the executive board will serve as additional counselors, Daniels said. Heep said the prayer team consists of Amy Feaster, Lauren Page, Kristina Dudley and Olivia Stella.
The Rooted executive board, counselors and prayer team will be going on a retreat this Friday to get to know each other, Daniels said.
