The Missouri Students Association is sponsoring a drinking age policy town hall meeting Tuesday night from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Memorial Union.

The forum will be an opportunity for students to discuss the Amethyst Intiative, a movement to address the 21-year-old drinking age. The meeting, according to its official Facebook page, will be focused on creating a dialogue.

Guests for the event include members from several MU groups, including the Wellness Resource Center, College Republicans, College Democrats, the Parents Association and College Libertarians.

Earlier last year, a resolution asking MU Chancellor Brady Deaton and UM system President Gary Forsee to sign the Amethyst Initiative created much debate in MSA. Although the resolution passed, according to a previous Maneater report, MSA Sen. Garret Bergquist said Mothers Against Drunk Driving has publicly spoken out against attempts to lower the minimum drinking age.

States are not required to keep the drinking age at the minimum of 21. But, under the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, failure to do so results in a loss of 10 percent of a state's highway funding for that year.
