The Greek Leader Retreat took place this past Friday and Saturday. The retreat included leaders from the Panhellenic Association, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Interfraternity Council. "It's to gain some insight into our own leadership tendencies and characteristics and also an opportunity to get to know other campus leaders and people that we'll be working with," PHA President Caitlin Mundschenk said about the retreat. IFC President Brandon Green said all chapter presidents and executive council members were required to attend. Mundschenk said Friday night was for chapter presidents from the four Greek councils. The executive board members for each council joined in Saturday.
"I think they did some breakout sessions," Mundschenk said about Friday's activities. "They had the option of attending the ones they felt were most pertinent to themselves or their chapters." Saturday's activities included exploring the executive council members' different strengths and how they can best apply them, Mundschenk said. "In the afternoon, Venture Out came and we did a lot of team building activities," Mundschenk said. Green said dealing with challenges was a focus of activities with Venture Out, which offers teambuilding courses to students groups. "As Greek leaders, we deal with challenges every day," Green said. "You hope that we take what we learned at this retreat and apply this to our jobs." Mundschenk said the retreat focuses more on team building and strength quests rather than discussion of Greek Life. "We use this weekend as a jumpstart to the year," Green said. "These relationships that we built over the weekend translate to councils and chapters working together." Mundschenk said the retreat was a really great way for leaders to get to know each other.
"It's definitely good for the chapter presidents to know that their fellow presidents are dealing with the same things they are," Green said. Green said it was an ideal way to begin the year.
