Invisible Children encourages all people to sign federal petition
MU’s Invisible Children chapter is urging all students, regardless of their membership in the program, to sign a federal pledge.
In May, a bill was signed into law requiring the Obama administration to devise a comprehensive, multi-lateral plan to end the war in East Africa. The administration must release its strategy near the end of November.
MU Invisible Children’s co-president and founder Becky Dale said the chapter is pledging to read and show support for the federal strategy. She said they are looking for at least 10,000 people nationally to pledge to read it.
“The war has been going on for almost 25 years now and they have tried six separate peace talks, all of which have failed. We believe that this is the most viable solution to the problem in East Africa.”
Additionally, the deadline to apply to be an Invisible Children Roadie is Monday. Roadies will undergo training in the organization’s San Diego offices prior to hitting the road with a team and sharing Invisible Children’s story at screenings across the country.
Although Dale said she is unaware of anyone from MU applying to be a Roadie this year, she would love to see students do so. She can attest to the internship’s effectiveness, as she worked with the national chapter this time last year.
“They’re always looking for people, and it’d be awesome to get more people involved in the national movement,” she said.
