'Give a Little to Get a Little' collects gifts for local charities

About 75 people gathered in Stotler Lounge Friday evening for the Legion of Block Collegians and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.'s "Give a Little to Get a Little" dinner.

For admission into the dinner, attendees had to donate an item to either the Sol House or Cub Hub. Small children's gifts, toiletries, school supplies or clothes for teenagers were suggested gifts.

Sol House is a homeless youth program which aims to provide homeless youth with housing, counseling, life skills training and case management services. The Cub Hub program offers student parents free childcare, allowing them to complete other obligations that come with being a college student.

"We chose the specific causes because homeless youth and student parents aren't something people usually benefit," LBC Communications Chairwoman Ashley Edwards said.

Edwards said this is the first time this event has been held and she thought it was a success.

"The night went really well," Edwards said. "We collected a lot of gifts and we had students, faculty and representatives from both the Cub Hub and Sol House there."
