Invisible Children announces new council

After choosing a new election process and executive council construction, the members of Invisible Children selected a new council based on experiences of the last two years of the group’s existence.

This year Invisible Children group decided to reconstruct their executive council from two presidents to a larger executive board.

“The girl that helped me start it all freshman year was back from being a Roadie, but I also had a co-president already and it was a great opportunity to spread the responsibility between the three of us because last semester was pretty intense,” Co-President Annie Bastida said. “I decided to make there be three tri-directors each in charge of a certain aspect of the group, then an executive council to be beneath that to be the significant planning, brain storming group and finally the regular members to participate in all our events and help out as much as they can.”

The new format is a way to get more members involved in the planning and brainstorming process.

“This way, our execs are going to be people who really want to put in a lot of time and effort to brainstorm and plan events, fundraisers, apparel,” Bastida said. “By doing this, we will have our members get to know each other better, have more time during regular meetings to have ‘fun’ and ‘bond’ more instead of my co-president and me just talking at the group.”

The following members of the executive council for Invisible Children were announced Wednesday night: Stacey Schutzman (Fundraising), Erin Squires (Fundraising), Brett Smith (Budget), Elizabeth Geudtner (Recruitment) Nuzhat Chowdhury (Recruitment), Amanda Nichols (Recruitment), Jenny Thompson (Apparel), Hannah Carlson (Apparel), Sun Joun Kim (Marketing), Jenny Swofford (Marketing), Lily Taylor (S4S), Wren Tolen (S4S) and Elise Oggioni (S4S).

Invisible Children has several upcoming events planned throughout the semester. They will have a regular meeting on Feb. 21, where they will screen another video. They will also be traveling to Oklahoma to get a cosponsor on the bill proposed by the national Invisible Children and other members of Congress. On April 20, The Legacy Tour, comprised of a movie screening and a member of the cast as well as Ugandans, will come to MU.

“We're also trying to have a concert on the quad,” Bastida said.
