Rooted fundraises for retreat
The Christian student organization Rooted fundraised through Shakespeare’s Pizza on Monday for their retreat, which welcomes new students to MU at the beginning of the fall semester.
Rooted Director Gwen Daniels, formerly of The Maneater staff, said participants presented a Rooted flier at Shakespeare’s in order to participate in the fundraiser. Shakespeare’s contributed 15 percent of proceeds for participants, Daniels said.
Daniels said Rooted’s goal is to raise enough money this year to lower the retreat cost to only $40 per person. “It’ll help out,” Daniels said. “Every little bit helps.”
She said Rooted will continue to fundraise by sending financial support letters to friends and family tomorrow and selling T-shirts around spring break.
“This year we’re looking to get business sponsors too,” Daniels said.
On Friday, the Rooted staff, including the newly selected prayer team and counselors, went on a retreat at the Columbia K-Life House, Daniels said.
“All the counselors and prayer team members mesh really well with exec,” Daniels said. “I think we’ll all be friends and hang out outside of Rooted.”
Since the retreat was an all-nighter, about 12 people stayed up all night, Daniels said.
“You really bond at four in the morning,” Daniels said.
She said the new prayer team and counselors will start meeting this week to prepare for the retreat.
