Senate Speaker recognizes senators with awards

Tags:

Amanda Shelton, Senate Speaker of the Missouri Students Association, recognized two senators at Wednesday's meeting for their work in the association this year.

Shelton gave two awards; one was reserved for a new senator and one was given to a senator who had been immersed in Senate for a longer period of time.

The new senator award went to Greg Loeffler, vice-chair of the Campus and Community Relations committee.

"(Greg) has been encouraging over the past two semesters, a team player, a leader when someone needs to step in, (he) has written legislation...he's open to criticism, open to growth," Shelton said.

The second award went to Operations chairman and Speaker-elect Evan Wood.

"This person was simply there at everything...respectfully challenged others when they were wrong...wrote piece of legislation after piece of legislation," Shelton said.

Shelton said picking recipients for the awards was a hard decision, but that the process was a good opportunity for her to reflect on all of the great things Senate had done in the past semester and a half.
