RHA discusses campus safety
The Residence Halls Association discussed locking exterior residence halls doors more often.
"It's probably time that we tighten up what we're doing a little bit, but I want to get some sense from the students on what you think our residents would like us to do," Residential Life Spokeswoman Kristen Temple said.
Representative Joseph Bowles said he would like to see an online poll sent to all residents in order to determine what most would prefer.
Bowles suggested adding front desk overnight shifts.
Residential Life conducted research as to what security policies other universities have on locking exterior doors.
"There was a fifty page paper from nearly every college in the state," Bowles said. "I feel like we're a little bit behind."
Melissa Needles of Jones Residence Hall said her government suggested adding an overnight front desk shift for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, to add more security and prevent damage in the residence halls.
"Personally, I would like to see someone at the desk 24/7," RHA Vice President Lauren Thomas said. "Maybe only on the weekends when it's more popular to consume alcohol."
President Rachael Feuerborn and Bowles will meet this Wednesday to discuss a referendum.
