MSO elects new executive board
The Muslim Student Organization elected new officers for the 2010-2011 academic year on Thursday night.
Education Officer Arwa Mohammad will be next year’s president. Mohammad said she plans to improve community outreach and keep the dialogue about Islam active on campus.
“I really want to empower the members to be really involved,” Mohammad said. “I think a club is most successful when everyone’s involved.”
Other officers on next year’s MSO executive board will include Vice President Belal Al-Rawi, Treasurer Safwan Hyder, Secretary Afnan Shebib, Public Relations Officer and Webmaster Mahir Khan, Education Officer Shafi Lodhi, Brothers Social Chair Taha Hameduddin and Sisters Social Chair Hafsa Lodhi.
All officers except Vice President Belal Al-Rawi are new to their positions.
Shebib said she also wants to encourage more involvement, both in and outside the Muslim community. She said many Muslims from abroad do not know other Muslims in their community, while many non-Muslims have misconceptions about Islam.
“I’d like to get people back into the Islamic faith,” Shebib said.
