RHA discusses scholarship applications
The specifics of the Residence Halls Association's annual scholarship caused strife when some members said Congress used time poorly.
RHA spent more than 15 minutes discussing the specific details of the scholarship. After discussion, Congress voted to defer the finer details to the scholarship, which is headed by National Communications Coordinator Mike Madden.
RHA voted to deny those holding a paid position within RHA from applying for the scholarship.
Freshman Kathy Rudd said she thought those who hold paid positions within RHA should be able to receive the scholarship.
"These people do a ton of work," Rudd said. "Yeah, they do see a stipend for that, but it doesn't begin to cover all the work they do."
RHA discussed whether or not student staff members should be able to apply for the scholarship. They voted to allow such members to apply.
Some representatives said those who work as student staff members might not need additional money.
Freshman Taylor Dukes, an out of state student who works as a student staff member, disagreed.
"I pay about 10 grand more than everyone else," Dukes said. "That money could be put to good use."
The scholarship's deadline for application is April 16.
