NY Times, ESPN report Texas nearing deal to remain in Big 12
Former Texas running back Chris Ogbonnaya celebrates after a touchdown run in the first half of a Missouri football game against Texas on October 18, 2008 in Austin, Texas. The New York Times and ESPN reported Monday that Texas is considering a deal to remain with the Big 12, despite an offer from the Pac-10 conference.
The New York Times and ESPN reported Monday the University of Texas is nearing a deal with Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe to remain in the conference. The New York Times cited an unnamed athletic director who said a restructured television deal drafted by Beebe is luring Texas into the possibility of staying on in a 10-team Big 12.
The last word from MU's administration came Sunday night after a special executive meeting of the UM system Board of Curators, Chancellor Brady Deaton, President Gary Forsee and Athletic Director Mike Alden via conference call. Deaton said the curators had made no definite decision regarding MU's future in the Big 12 but that they were working with its remaining members to strengthen the conference.
