Texas A&M, OU join Texas in sticking with Big 12
The announcement from the University of Texas of its intentions to remain in the Big 12 led the way for two more members, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, to announce their stay in the conference as well Monday. Although MU has yet to release an official announcement stating its plans to remain in the Big 12, Chancellor Brady Deaton said Sunday that the university is a loyal member of the conference.
After losing two original members, Nebraska and Coloardo, reports from news outlets across the country in the past week predicted the Big 12 would quickly dissolve. According to the Big 12's website, a restructured television deal proposed by the conference's commissioner, Dan Beebe, was a major component in Texas' decision-making process. The new contract allows Texas rights to its own television network and could increase each school's revenue drawn from television from $17 million to $20 million.
