University Hospital to gain 72 private patient rooms
The UM system Board of Curators approved the redesign schematic for the 6th and 7th floors of University Hospital.
The floors, which housed the Children's Hospital before its relocation to the Columbia Regional Hospital campus, will be gutted to make way for 72 state-of-the-art private patient rooms. The existing rooms are semi-private.
According to the design schematics, new electrical work will be installed to meet modern codes and efficiency requirements. The interior will be modeled to complement the new Patient Care Tower.
The project will be funded from UMHC Capital Improvements funding from Hospital Revenue, with a projected budget of $15,610,000. Construction of the redesign is slated to end by March 2012.
