Construction continues on Stewart Road
Residents of Mark Twain residence hall were sent an e-mail Wednesday informing them of the continued closure of Stewart Road.
Stewart Road closed between Providence Road and Fourth Street Oct. 4, and from Fourth Street to just west of the Fifth Street intersection Dec. 20. The bike and pedestrian paths will remain open.
Upon the residents' return to Mark Twain after break, a crane will be located between Providence and Fifth Street.
“This crane is necessary to remove an old coal fired boiler to make room for a new biomass boiler,” the e-mail states. “Demolition will continue through this spring and will be followed by foundation and building preparations.”
The goal is to have the new boiler delivered in June and subsequently installed during the summer.
“Energy Management and the Department of Residential Life are appreciative of your patience as MU works to complete necessary upgrades to our utility systems,” the e-mail states.
Stewart Road is scheduled to reopen in 2012.
