Mizzou Black Men's Initiative logs 334 service hours during break
Early Friday morning, the Mizzou Black Men's Initiative finished tallying and announced their completed service hours during break from the Winter Service Challenge.
Their goal was 200 total hours; they logged 334.
"I'm excited about everything so far, and I'm definitely happy to see that we were able to achieve a lot over the break," coordinator Marcus Mayes said. "MBMI members really stepped up to the plate and really represented their communities well. It was nice to see a lot of their Mizzou friends come and participate at some of the various service opportunities as well. We definitely thank them for helping us give back to our communities."
Last year, the men completed 125 goals. They more than doubled this number this year.
"The 125 hours of service we did over winter break last year blew me away," Mayes said. "We didn't even have a goal that we were shooting for. They challenge was simply to give back over the break, and they responded really well to it. They seemed to really grasp the importance of maintaining the service attitude when they leave campus and go back to their communities. That was the same foundational goal for this year's challenge."
The men will continue their events next week through several events for Black Men Rising.
