Deaton to examine conference affiliation options
The UM System Board of Curators unanimously granted Chancellor Brady Deaton power to examine options for conference affiliation in a meeting Tuesday evening.
“Now is the time to explore our options to fully understand where we are before locking into a long-term commitment with the Big 12,” UM Interim President Steve Owens said during the conference.
Deaton also announced he has stepped down as chairman of the Big 12 Board of Directors.
“I’ve relinquished my role as chair of the Big 12 Board of Directors in order to focus more fully on MU’s best interest,” he said.
Deaton said it is impossible to determine when MU will select a conference for the next season.
“That will require analysis and communication and will take some time,” he said.
