UM Health Care braces itself for blizzard conditions
In preparation for Tuesday and Wednesday's blizzard conditions, UM Health Care officials have gathered extra food and medical supplies and have set up a labor pool and transportation center for staff.
"We have a very dedicated team of employees, many of whom are staying overnihgt in our hospitals and area hotels to ensure they will be here to care for our patients during the next few days," , UM Health Care Chief Executive Officer Jim Ross said in a news release.
University Hospital's emergency center reported below average amounts of patients as of noon Tuesday. Of the emergency room's 24 patients, however, eight had suffered injuries from falls.
All inpatient units of University Hospital, the Women's and Children's Hospital, the Missouri Psychiatric Center and the Missouri Orthopedic Institute are open, and will remain open all hours as usual. The University Physicians outpatient clinics and Ellis Fischel outpatient clinics will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
