Mizzou Black Women's Initiative hosts SOUL Dinner
The Mizzou Black Women's Initiative held two fundraising events this past weekend.
The first was Friday, when about 20 women volunteered bussing tables at Fuddrucker's. Tips from their work benefitted their organization.
In celebration of Black History Month, a few of the women attended the Shaping Our Unique Legacy Dinner in Stotler Lounge on Sunday. The dinner paid homage to the black women leaders of tomorrow – what the women of MBWI are striving to become.
"We're trying to leave something behind here for someone other than ourselves," executive board member Gabrielle Lowe said. "The mission of MBWI is to give something back."
Donations collected at the dinner benefitted the Children LifeTime Educational Foundation, which strives to build libraries in Liberia.
The women's next two events, Black Women Rock! and the Natural Hair Summit, are on March 5 and March 20, respectively. MBWI is co-sponsoring both events.
