MU NAACP starts online hate crimes petition
In light of the recent racially-charged graffiti message, MU NAACP began a petition encouraging MU to implement a policy outlining the consequences for hate crimes.
"It is important for students to sign this because nothing is stronger on this campus than the student voice," President Bryan Like said. "Hate crimes entail many issues and those issues are not directly addressed with consequences in our M-Book. By having a great number of students sign this petition, it will be a bold declaration advocating for the policy we hope to see."
The petition had 32 signatures shortly after it was started.
"Stern consequence can help reduce issues that our university has seen over the past year," Like said. "Nothing can stand in front of thousands of students calling for this hate crime consequence to become a reality."
The petition can be found here.
