Taiwanese Student Association gathers for Lunar New Year
About 50 people gathered for dinner Sunday evening with the Taiwanese Student Association in Memorial Union to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
This is the Year of the Rabbit, transitioning from the Year of the Tiger.
"The actual New Year was last Thursday, but we didn't have time on a weekday," graduate student Han Cheung said.
He said attendees wrote New Year calligraphy on red paper to celebrate, as well as told riddles. They also performed a lion and rabbit dance.
"The lion and rabbit dance wasn't traditional, it was just something silly we made up using a traditional lion mask and a modern rabbit mask," Cheung said.
