LBC's Freshman Action Team gives back to food pantry
For the second consecutive day, the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri received the aid of an MU minority organization.
The Legion of Black Collegians' Freshman Action Team volunteered at the pantry Wednesday, packing carmel popcorn to be distributed to elementary school kids.
"We love volunteering at the food bank," FAT Chairwoman Chloe Alexander said. "We always have a lot of fun going there because we compete in teams within FAT to see who can create the most bags the fastest. It's always a good time there and the people there are always really happy to have us."
Ten members went to fill boxes with 85 bags of popcorn, which were then given to the children.
"Being a part of FAT, you have to participate in community service," Alexander said. "We like the freshmen to get more involved when they step foot on campus so they can build their résumés and get a chance to help out the community."
To celebrate the upcoming Valentine's Day, the group is hosting its second Speed Dating event Thursday at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center.
"It's supposed to be a huge success," Alexander said.
