Law school continues downward slide in U.S. News & World Report rankings

After falling from the 65th spot to the 93rd spot in U.S. News & World Report's law schools rankings last year, the School of Law dropped another 14 spots this year. 2011's rankings, released Tuesday, place the school at 107th overall.

This year, the magazine's rankings system put more emphasis on the number of students who had a job on the day of his or her graduation. According to the magazine's website, 33.8 percent of MU graduates achieved this feat. According to a report from The Columbia Daily Tribune on Wednesday, 92 percent of the remaining graduates had secured a job within nine months of graduation.

MU's rankings improved in the section ranked by top law firms in the country, placing 58th. To determine this ranking, the magazine sent surveys to 750 attorneys. Fourteen percent of these attorneys responded.

Correction appended: The fact that 92 percent of law school graduates who did not hold a job on the day of his or her graduation held a job nine months later was not attributed to The Columbia Daily Tribune in this blog post's original version. The Maneater regrets the error.
