Faculty Council gives green light to Diversity Intensive course requirement
The product of years of debate and amendments, a Diversity Intensive course requirement was passed by Faculty Council on Thursday.
According to the final draft, diversity courses will meet two fundamental criteria: (1) focusing on understanding differing social groups and (2) exploring social inequalities broadly defined to include class, race, ethnicities, disabilities, genders, veterans, rural and urban communities, global economic and/or resource disparities, indigenous cultures, among others.
Under the proposal, all MU undergraduates will be required to take three credit hours designated as “Diversity Intensive.” To be listed as a “Diversity Intensive,” a course must be approved in a similar fashion to “Writing Intensive” classes.
A new subcommittee will be created to approve DI courses. Members will consist of faculty members, from at least three different MU colleges, with knowledge about diversity issues. Look for a full-length article on this issue in Friday's print edition of The Maneater.

I think this is a great idea for the university. You wouldn't believe how many people at MU think it's okay to be racist as long there are only other white people in the room.
