International Center urges students studying abroad in Japan to return home
MU recommended Thursday that all students studying abroad in Japan return home, according to the International Center’s website.
Nine students were in Japan when the earthquake hit.
“We know that three are already back in the country, and we’re in communication with the other six,” MU spokesman Christian Basi said.
The International Center’s recommendation is based on a State Department travel warning released Wednesday. Because of the deteriorating situation at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, the State Department encourages U.S. citizens in Japan to evacuate.
“MU will work with returning students to resolve issues related to registration, course work and housing,” the website stated.
