Curators approve presidential qualification statement

The Board of Curators approved four new degrees for UM-Kansas City and a resolution to honor Kit Bond, among other action items brought before the full board Tuesday morning.

The board approved four new degrees for UMKC. Their school will now offer a bachelor of health science, Master of Science in Finance, Master of Science in Real Estate and a PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The audit committee presented their report for which there were no action items. No serious ongoing problems were found by auditers.

The compensation and human resources committee discussed the retirement plan actuarial evaluation and the retirement plan advisory committee on Monday’s board meeting. No additional action was recommended for the latter.

The Board of Curators approved the extension of transition assistance for a year to allow management to use it. They also approved credit for summer work done beyond the nine-month faculty.

The finance committee delivered their report and had three proposed action committees. One item will be postponed until a new UM System President is selected. The board approved terminating Franklin Templeton as Emerging Markets Manager and hiring Eaton Vance Parametric in his place. They also approved investing $30 million in private equity.

Chariman Warren Erdman spoke on behalf of the presidential search committee. After receiving a report on the seven presidential search forums conducted the week prior and consulting with Jan Greenwood, the search committee revised the presidential qualification statement. The board approved the statement, which authorizes staff and the search consultant to begin advertising for presidential nominees.

The Good and Welfare Board was the last to speak. First Interim President Steve Owens recognized Missouri University of Science and Technology Chancellor Jack Carney. The Board of Curators meeting will be the last that Carney will host before he steps down from his position.

Also, board members approved a proposal to recognize former Sen. Kit Bond’s retirement. The resolution the Board of Curators adopted will recognize Bond’s political achievements since the 1970s and his involvement with the UM System.
