STRIPES gives 100,000th ride
STRIPES, MU's safe-ride program, gave its 100,000th ride Friday night. After operations on Thursday evening, STRIPES had given 99,999 rides.
According to the STRIPES website, five students founded the organization at MU's campus in 2001 after visiting a similar program at Texas A&M University called CARPOOL. STRIPES, short for Supportive Tigers Riding In Pursuit of Ensuring Safety, gave its first ride Oct. 4, 2001. The program is part of a national organization of sister programs called Safe Ride Programs United.
The Missouri Students Association, which funds STRIPES, recently approved a contingency and reserve request to fund a STRIPES house expansion. MSA President Eric Woods said the expansion should be completed by the end of the spring semester.
