Athletics Department joins Joplin relief efforts
In an effort to alleviate the damage inflicted upon Joplin after Monday's tornado, the Athletics Department announced it is setting up bins where people can donate children's food and sanitary items.
The bins will be available Wednesday on the east concourse of the Hearnes Center, and will be transported to Joplin on Thursday by basketball coach Frank Haith and other staff members.
"The images of the destruction in Joplin are absolutely devastating," Haith said in a news release. "But at the same time, the sight of neighbor helping neighbor serves as inspiration for us all. We can't change what happened on Sunday night, but if we can make life a little easier, you better believe we are going to try and do it."
MU announced Tuesday it would begin selling T-shirts to benefit Joplin.
The T-shirt reads "One State. One Spirit. One Mizzou" and is available for $14.95. All proceeds from the shirts will go toward United Way's United for Joplin campaign. The shirts are available now at the Tiger Team Store, the University Bookstore and online, and Thursday in the Memorial Stadium Team Store.
Monday, MU partnered with the Heart of Missouri United Way to launch a texting campaign to raise money.
"Tiger fans, your donations do make a difference," the release stated. "Join us in helping out those impacted by Sunday's tornado in Southwest Missouri."
