Missouri Students Association presidential candidates Spencer Maas and Shelby Catalano accepted the major infraction issued to them by the Board of Election Commissioners at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
According to the BEC and a previous Maneater blog post, the infraction was issued by the BEC because the slate did not submit its required campaign materials by 5 p.m. every Friday as outlined on page 4 in the BEC handbook.
According to an email sent to Maas/Catalano by the BEC, Maas and Catalano will not be allowed to campaign for one week, the punishment for a major infraction.
"As such, your slate must take down all campaign websites, posters, and other campaign material at this time," the email stated. "Additionally, you may not participate in campaign activities such as speaking to groups, tabling, or other organized acts of promotion."
Maas said in an email to the BEC and Student Court that he only recently discovered that his slate's paperwork was not filed last Friday because of a miscommunication between Catalano and their campaign manager David Wettroth.
Slate Maas/Catalano may begin campaigning again at 3:37 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5. Voting begins Nov. 5 and ends Nov. 7.
