Student Center welcomes 1,000,000th visitor
As most students waltzed in and out of the doors of the MU Student Center on Wednesday, freshman Paula Steinmeyer was treated a bit differently.

"We are thrilled that so many students, faculty and staff visit the MU Student Center each and every day," Missouri Student Unions associate director Heath Immel said. Gwynn Hall renovations in beginning stages
Renovations on Gwynn Hall will soon be underway, though a definitive plan for what will be added has yet to be established.
Renovations are projected to cost less than repairs would have cost, as Gwynn Hall is in the most disrepair of all campus buildings, Dean of Human Environmental Sciences Stephen Jorgensen said.
“The architect was here this week working with engineers to do the site study,” Jorgensen said. “They are just now getting the dimensions of the work that they will have to do.”
The renovations were approved at the Board of Curators meeting last Thursday afternoon. The project, estimated to cost around $11 million, will be similar to the recent renovations of Tate and Switzler Halls.
“We had to document that we had the funding in place (for the meeting),” Jorgensen said. “And we have that done.”
With the approval to gut and renovate Gwynn Hall, discussions on what will be added to the hall will soon be underway.
“We are getting everything that we could want (with the renovations),” Jorgensen said. “We are putting in about $920,000 of our own resources, and the rest is from the university.”

The American Red Cross announced Thursday that MU, which hosts the largest student-run blood drive in the nation, exceeded its donation goal for the 2011 Homecoming Blood Drive, according to the Mizzou Homecoming Facebook page.
MU wanted to collect at least 5,000 units in celebration of the centennial Homecoming celebration. The American Red Cross received 5,264 units from this year’s blood drive. Each unit of blood can save up to three lives.
