Nixon proposes plan for 7 percent cut in UM system funding
Gov. Jay Nixon proposed a 7 percent cut to UM system funding Wednesday along with $206 million in cuts to state government departments. Nixon's plan for next year's budget was revealed as part of his 2011 State of the State address. According to the budget plan, Nixon will submit to the Missouri legislature cuts to the UM system would total to $29.9 million.
The proposal makes no mention or suggestion of increased tuition at MU or other public universities, but the UM system Board of Curators hinted at an impending tuition increase at a meeting Jan. 13. The curators will meet at the end of January to vote on any changes to tuition.
