Groupon comes to Columbia
Monday morning, Columbia Groupon subscribers received an e-mail notification of the city's inaugural offer.
"Groupon is a combination of the words group and coupon," the e-mail said. "Each day, we offer an unbeatable deal on the best of Columbia: restaurants, spas, sporting events, theater and more. By promising businesses a minimum number of customers, we get discounts you won't find anywhere else. We call it 'collective buying power.'"
The first offer is for B&B Bagel, and 92 people have already purchased the deal. It is available until midnight.
Groupon will offer a different deal to subscribers every day, in an effort to spur business in Columbia.
