Students use snow day for work, play
The MU Student Center was all but abandoned Tuesday morning, but the students who remained behind said they were using their snow day to get some work done before joining friends for snowball fights or relaxation.
Sophomore Taylor Brengard said her street on East Campus never gets plowed, so she came to the student center to work on a paper.
"My roomates are probably going to start drinking, but I need to get my paper done," Brengard said. "I felt trapped in my house this morning."
Landscape Services, the department responsible for clearing snow from campus, lists priorities for cleanup beginning with University Hospital and Clinics drives and parking lots. Campus building entrances are their next priority followed by shuttle bus shelters and campus sidewalks.
So far, measurements for snow on campus fall somewhere between 5 and 7 inches.
Freshman Matt Mazick found a creative use for the snow on campus — he said he was planning on using the snow to make strawberry smoothies.
"It's actually kind of embarrassing I didn't bring any work with me," Mazick said. "I saw on Facebook there were a few fun events on the quad and Stankowski, so I might head over there later on."
